The doctors at Florida Spine and Sports Specialists advocate the use of yoga therapy as a complementary treatment to modern medicine. Through yoga therapy, patients are taught to slow down, breathe, and focus. As they are going through the healing process, many patients experience pain. Yoga therapy can help to alleviate some of the mental, physical, and emotional pain. The various poses and breathing techniques taught in yoga help to strengthen different areas of the body.
Yoga helps ease lower back pain by gently stretching and strengthening the muscles of the lower back and legs, and increasing blood circulation, which in turn brings healing nutrients to the injured tissues. Yoga is a safe and effective way to alleviate many forms of back pain or neck pain, and prevent ongoing problems.
Barb Tree will be teaching a gentle yoga therapy class every Saturdays 9-10 am and Thursday from 7-8 pm. She can also meet with patients individually at the clinic for private sessions. Yoga mats and other yoga material are provided onsite.

Barbara Sloan has been teaching yoga since1998, and is certified in both Sivananda and Kundalini. She also has worked professionally as a contemporary dancer and instructor for more than thirty years. Combining her extensive knowledge and training in both yoga and dance, gives her an unique perspective of the body,mind and spirit. She has taught many forms of yoga : Hatha, Yoga for Scoliosis, Hot, GentleVinyasa, Restorative, Yin, as well as Meditation and breath work, and is always looking forward to helping others find their peace by tuning into their body.
